About the Artist

Jim Lyon is a member of the Outdoor Painters Society and has a more traditional approach to art by preferring plein air painting, which is direct contact with the landscape. Although I have painted different kinds of subjects such as portraits and still life, the landscape is my first love. My true goal and passion is to capture the landscape in plein air and convey clearly what I see in the landscape. I continue to take workshops and instruction to improve my skill as an artist. I have been influenced by many artists and instructors, including John Encinias and Dennis Parker. In recent years I have taken workshops with the Scottsdale School and have studied with Ned Mueller and Mark Boedges, and my local instructor Rick McClure. All my instructors are nationally known artists.
